- "my TEACHING Practicum." -

I've finally  finished my teaching practicum (PPL) at SMA St. Theresia :D

There were really LOTS of tears and laughter during all the preparation and the teaching practicum itself.. My first teaching was on Wednesday, 19th of August 2011.. Oh God, I was super nervous at that time! I even got a stomachache right a day before my first teaching bcos I was too nervous and afraid. Guess what, I couldn't even laugh a bit at that time haha -.-"

I'm gonna share to you some simple highlights and reflections of every teaching that I've done.. Enjoy! :)

1st teaching (Wednesday, 19 August 2011)
Class: X-3
Skill: Reading (Narrative Text)
Well.. It was one of my worst preparation of teaching, I guess. I planned to teach by using some power point slides bcos actually the school has provided a projector in each of the class. I prepared the slides very well and designed them to be as interesting for the students as I could. But unfortunately an incident happened at the class. The projector didn't work. It couldn't be connected to my laptop. Wew.. I was panic and it wasted almost 15 minutes of my teaching time, which the total time was ONLY 45 minutes!! Grrr. At last the projector still didn't work so I had to explain the materials by writing them on the whiteboard in a rush of time! (can  you imagine how long did it take to write almost all the materials on the whiteboard?) Geezzz.. &*#$@!
Yeah, it was terrible. *deep sigh*

2nd teaching (Wednesday, 7 September 2011)
Class: XII IPA 2
Skill: Writing (Explanation Text)
Haha.. This is the most SILENT class I've ever taught! Can't you imagine teaching a skill of writing at 7 a.m. with SUPER PASSIVE students that refused to answer anything I asked?? It was really EXHAUSTING, you know. I got out of the class with a lost voice bcos I had to talk a lot n loudly but almost nobody answered my questions. It drove me crazyyyyyyy!! Erghh.

3rd teaching (Monday, 12 September 2011)
Class: XII IPS 1
Skill: Listening (Report Text)
A contrast from my 2nd class that I taught, this class was very messy and the students were talkactive and quite naughty. Maybe it was bcos I taught them at the listening laboratorium, not at their own class, so they might feel that the lesson was not too important.. They came late and slowly to the lab and when they all have gathered there, they kept making fun and telling jokes to each other. I faced some difficulties to control that class, really. But it's okay, they made the class became lively and quite fun haha.. I thought it's better to have a super active class rather than a super passive class, indeed.

4th teaching (Friday, 16 September 2011)
Class: X-4
Skill: Speaking (Narrative Text)
The teaching was not bad.. The students were generally okay. What made it hard was I taught them 12.00,  which was very hot and the students' were lazy and tired already haha.. But I was glad bcos there were some active students who were cooperative (I still remember exactly their names and faces) and they made everything much easier for me :)

5th teaching (Wednesday, 21 September 2011)
Class: XI IPS 3
Skill: Speaking (Report Text)
THIS IS MY BEST CLASS EVER! Haha.. They students were very very cooperative and nice! Though a few of them didn't pay much attention to my teaching and kept chitchatting at the back of the class, but the other rest of the class gave their full attention and participation to me :)
They were so active in answering what I asked to them and they seemed so enthusiastic! Some of them were even quickly raised their hands when I asked them to perform their tasks in front of the class.. My teaching also went very smoothly and I enjoyed it very much ^^
I really really really love XI IPS 3!! Thanks my dear students, for giving me the  best class I've ever taught.. Gonna always remember you all! :)

6th teaching (Wednesday, 12 October 2011)
Class: XII IPS 3
Skill: Writing (Discussion Text)
We took this pic at Mam Awied's room
when we were consulting the LP for our 6th teaching
Hmm.. I didn't really enjoy teaching this class bcos this class was similar to XII IPA 2 which I taught on my 2nd teaching.. A passive class. But this class was just a little bit better bcos the students were still involved in the brainstorming activity. The hardest part was when I assigned them to do the exercise, most of them didn't do it seriously. Some of them were talking to each other,  making some jokes, even a student fell asleep and another student was daydreaming. Perfect, right?! Hahaha.. :P
Maybe the topic of the material was quite hard so they were not too interested. Huff.

7th teaching (Wednesday, 19 October 2011)
Class: XI IPA 1
Skill: Reading (Exposition Text: Analytical and Hortatory)

Me and my last Lesson Plan for this class!
It was my last teaching and my observation day. My lecturer from Atma Jaya also came with us to the school to observed my and my friends' teaching at class. The observation score will be counted as my final exam score for the teaching practicum subject. It made me feel nervous again. But I really tried to give my best teaching. Luckily, my class was nice and cooperative enough. Some of them often answered my questions actively and they seemed quite enthusiastic. It was not as bad as what I imagined before.. :)

Thanks God I've finally done my long and tiring journey of teaching practicum. Yet it was so unforgettable. A week has just passed by, but I miss the students and English teachers at SMA St. Theresia already :')

Thanks for the strength I got from my Jesus Christ :)
And all the support and prayers from my family, my best friends, and my lovely Kevin :)
Without you all I might not be strong enough to do this exhausting teaching practicum.. A bunch of thanks to you guys! I love you! (",)

Last Wednesday me and my friends went back to SMA St. Theresia to say thanks to the teachers and gave them some certificates and gifts. We  also took some pictures there ^^

- "Mermaid vs Whales." -

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

(The girl on the picture is French model Tara Lynn)
Last comment: I'm not putting down thin people, being a thin woman myself (BMI of 22 maybe?)

Just saying that being large doesn't equate to being unattractive.
